Winter Weather and Skin Care

December 7 , 2007

It’s a known fact to most women that during the winter months a change in skin regime may be needed due to the dry weather.

However, men aren’t to be overlooked regarding skin care concerns because new studies show that the male gender is just as affected by the cold air as females are.

Skin Care in the Colder Months

Kathy Jones, the President-Elect of the Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists says that men are just as likely to notice changes in their skin during colder months as women.

However, Jones says that men are less likely to do anything about their changing skin.

Avoiding Skin Damage

“There are two things you can do to make yourself look younger,” explains Jones. “Use UVA/UVB sun protection daily, and do not smoke.”

According to research, UVB rays are what makes the skin burn, tan and age faster.

UVA rays often penetrate deeper into the skin and play a major role in the wrinkling of the skin.

Shaving Off Old Skin

Doctors say that men who shave daily and have a clean face often have an advantage when it comes to wrinkles.

Shaving the top layer of skin off promotes new cells and keeps the skin looking young and healthy.
