New Study Offers Hope to Men with Gynecomastia

A new study conducted by a plastic surgeon in Houston offers men living with gynecomastia.

The study appears in December’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery medical journal for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Breast Surgery for Men

For many men, the shame of living with excess breast tissue, a condition known as gynecomastia, can be paralyzing and embarrassing.

In a study conducted by Dr. Henry Mentz of the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, the results concluded that pectoral etching can be a safe and effective option for men who want to feel more secure about their bodies.

Pectoral Etching Procedure

The pectoral etching surgery uses targeted liposuction along the outer edges of the chest muscles.

The liposuction to these particular areas creates an evident contrast that outlines the pectoral muscle.

The surgery also thins the fat and breast tissue under the nipple, which reduces fullness.

“Pectoral etching can be a life-altering experience for patients, many of whom have been ashamed of their upper body since childhood,” explains Dr. Mentz. “Many men aren’t aware the procedure is a safe, effective option for them.”

Study Results

In the study, Dr. Mentz analyzed more than 200 men who were undergoing surgery for gynecomastia.

Of these 200 men, only four experienced complications, which were reportedly minor.
