Increase in Mothers Getting Plastic Surgery

February 28 , 2008

Reports show that in the last three years, 70 percent of plastic surgeons in Dallas claim that they’ve seen a huge increase in mothers wanting plastic surgery post-pregnancy.

Many say that the desire for surgery after pregnancy stems from the simple fact that their bodies just aren’t what they used to be and with advanced technology, surgeries now enable women to regain portions of their pre-pregnancy bodies.

Pregnancy Takes Its Toll

Like many mothers, Jennifer McDonald is in her mid-thirties and isn’t completely satisfied with the appearance of her body after having two children.

McDonald delivered both children by C-section and three years later believes that there’s still work to be done.

“There’s a little lump here that no matter how many sit-ups I do, or how much I work out, it doesn’t go away,” explains McDonald, “so that bothers me a lot.”

Common Surgeries for Mothers

Plastic surgeons say that most mothers wait at least a year after having a child before they begin considering surgery.

“The most common things are having to do with loss of breast volume, especially after breast feeding,” says Dr. Jonathan Heistein, a surgeon in Dallas.

He also says that women who get surgery should first make sure they don’t want to have any more children to ensure the effectiveness of the procedure.
