Look 10 Years Younger With a Lower Lip Lift
April 20, 2007
Implants and fillers are the traditional methods used for lip enhancement, which tend to focus mostly on plumping up the appearance of the upper lip. Now the lower lip lift, an innovative cosmetic surgery procedure, helps patients reverse the effects of gravity to turn back the clock.
Although the lower lip is often overlooked, it actually plays a huge part in the aging process. When we’re young, our lips reveal the upper teeth and hide the lower ones. However, as we age, the lower teeth gradually become more apparent as our lips start to “slide down” the face.
“What happens is everything drops, just like the rest of the face and the breasts and other parts of the body,” said plastic surgeon Randal Haworth. “You can have the best face and brow lift, but if the minor youth cues are not addressed, you’re still going to look old.”
A procedure involves tightening the lip muscles through a small incision inside the front of the lower lip. No implants or fillers are injected during a lower lip lift.
The procedure is performed in 20 minutes under light sedation or local anesthesia and costs anywhere between $1,000 and $1,500. Patients should expect some swelling after the lower lip lift.
