Several treatments have surfaced in the past decade making it easier to rid your face of the sunspots, wrinkles and gravity that have plagued you over time.
The Facelift
Aging of the face is often reduced with a facelift (rhytidectomy).
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that about 138, 245 facelift operations were performed in 2006 and with the advance that have been in the medical world, patients are typically back to work in a little over a week.
Cosmetic Fillers
For those who don’t want to go under the knife to restore the vitality of their face, there are several cosmetic fillers available today that only require a few injections.
More than 1.97 million injections were given in the U.S. last year alone.
These fillers are injected under the skin and help to fill in creases and lines that have formed on the face. There are various types of injections that have become popular with Americans including:
- Fat Injections- With these injections, fat is obtained from another part of the patient’s body and injected into the parts of the face that have become sunken or hollow.
- Collagen- Collagen is one of the more common fillers and has been used for over 20 years. It can be formed from human or cow tissue.
- Hyaluronic acid- This filler is composed in a lab and is a man made component of human connective tissues. Some common names for this are Radiesse and Radiance.
- Poly-L-lactic acid- This type of acid is sold under the name Sculptra and is typically given to HIV patients who have had an immense amount of weight loss in their face.
- ArtFill- Recognized as the first permanent filler that was FDA approved, Artfill is composed of bovine collagen and other like substances that are used to make implants.
- Perlane- Perlane has just recently been approved as a soft tissue filler and is made of Hyaluronic acid.
