Banishing Cellulite: Popular Treatments and Therapies
July 28, 2006
Cellulite affects more than 80 percent of the worlds' female population. Some researchers suggest it's a biological benefit—an efficient way to store energy for childbirth. But most women would trade in the genetic advantage to banish the unsightly pockets of dimpled fat.
More and more women are spending a large amount of time, energy, and money to fight cellulite. In fact, the efforts to banish cellulite has become a billion dollar industry. Below are some of the most popular treatments and therapies women are utilizing to eradicate unsightly dimples.
Creams – Rub-on lotions that contain specific ingredients to restrict blood flow and draw moisture from the skin causing a temporary tightening effect, are the most inexpensive option to treat cellulite. The downside of most rub-on creams is that they take several months to work and the results aren't permanent.
Wraps – Many spas offer seaweed wrap treatments that work as a diuretic causing fast water weight loss and minimizing the appearance of cellulite. However, these treatments are temporary, only lasting several hours.
Endermologie – Endermologie therapy involves the use of an FDA approved non-invasive mechanical massage device that works to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage to reduce or erase the signs of cellulite. For maximum effectiveness, at least 14 endermologie treatments are needed in a seven-week time frame. Monthly treatments are also necessary to maintain smooth results.
Injections – FDA approved treatments such as Restylane injections used to smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face, are also utilized by some doctors to treat cellulite on the thighs and buttocks. The results of these injections last for a few months.
Diet and Exercise – While many people believe that cellulite is permanent and cannot be erased by diet and exercise alone, a healthy regimen has been proven beneficial in reducing the appearance of unsightly dimples.
